Pearce – Future Yankee?!

Minor League home run leader STEVEN PEARCE cranks 12th in second at-bat at Double A Level

I saw STEVEN PEARCE play first base for the Single A WIlliamsport Xrosscutters twice in 2005, his draft year (Pirates, 8th round), against the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Staten Island Yankees, and then again against the Cyclones in 2006.  This year he was promoted to Class A Advanced Lynchburg where he hit 11 HRS and was named Carolina  Player of the Week last week, just before being promoted yet again, this time to the Double AA Altoona Curve.  (Great name for a team.)

Pearce reminds me of Tino Martinez a bit — stocky, and a HR hitter in streaks.  As a Yankee fan, maybe I am just over-identifying — he shares my last name after all.)Stevenpearce_piratesaa2007_jerryhale_mlb
